Stockton, CA: STOCKTON MAN HELD IN GIRLFRIEND'S SLAYING

STOCKTON - A 42-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death the night before of his girlfriend.

The Stockton Police Department reported that at about 8:41 p.m. Tuesday, callers reported a disturbance at a home in the 2200 block of Dario Circle.

When officers arrived, they found 24-year-old Kathryn Flanagan dead, having suffered "obvious trauma."

Officer Pete Smith, a police spokesman, said investigators interviewed Flanagan's neighbors, relatives and boyfriend, 42-year-old Michael Simmelkjer Inman. Smith said Inman was then taken downtown for questioning. When that was completed, he was arrested.

He was booked into the County Jail at 4:46 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of murder and domestic violence and was being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Smith said Inman had a history of domestic violence against Flanagan, but he did not believe Flanagan had a protective order against Inman. The two did not live together, Smith said. Flanagan lived on Dario Circle, and Inman lived in the 800 block of Dave Brubeck Way, where he was met by investigators Tuesday night.

Smith said investigators weren't prepared to say what the motive for the killing may have been.

The Police Department is asking anyone with information that could help with the investigation to call detectives at (209) 937-8323.
